Gifted, because not enough people were interested in buying them for themselves?
I get tempted because of the ease of downloading books. Then, I read a physical book and rediscover the experience of paper and ink. Not yet for me. Perhaps when the Apple Tablet computer (which probably doesn't actually exist except in the minds of rumor mongers) comes out with a book reader…
BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ — A groundbreaking 3D broadcast by 3ality Digital LLC (www.3alitydigital.com) has been named one of the decade's best innovations by Sports Illustrated magazine. The Dec. 4, 2008 live 3D broadcast of the National Football League's Oakland Raiders versus the San Diego Chargers marked the first time a league game had been carried live in digital 3D.
The landmark event carried on a proud tradition of sports broadcast innovation by the Modell family. For years, Art Modell shaped NFL broadcast policies as the owner of the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. Modell's sons, David and John – 3ality Digital's chairman and co-founder, respectively – were instrumental in the landmark 3D broadcast.
“On behalf of everyone at 3ality Digital, we're thrilled and honored that Sports Illustrated chose our NFL broadcast project as one of the most notable innovations of the decade,” said David Modell. “It was a pleasure to partner with the NFL to make this industry first a reality and lay the groundwork for the more comprehensive slate of live-action 3D programming now hitting the market.”
“We started development of real-time 3D production systems over ten years ago,” said Steve Schklair, CEO of 3ality Digital Systems, the technology arm of 3ality Digital. “3D for cinema is easy compared to live broadcast, yet we always knew that the right set of technologies would make live broadcasting in stereo a reality. Our live 3D broadcast of the Raiders versus Chargers was a key milestone in 3D's migration from the cinema to the living room.”
In describing the broadcast experience, Sports Illustrated wrote in part: “If a one-sided snoozer of a game can be that engaging, one can only imagine the excitement of a postseason game or Super Bowl in three dimensions.” The magazine went on to say, “the brilliant final product is a testament to their (3D telecasts') inevitability.”
“We approached the live 3D broadcast of Thursday Night Football as a proof of concept and came away extremely impressed with the results,” said Howard Katz, the NFL's senior vice president of broadcasting and media operations. “The NFL has a long tradition of using emerging technologies to enhance the consumer experience, and live-action digital 3D clearly has enormous potential in this regard.”
“I'm proud and humbled to see our work included on such an exclusive and prestigious list of achievements,” said John Modell, who also serves as a 3ality Digital producer. “High-profile projects such as the NFL broadcast clearly demonstrate the value of the medium to every segment of the entertainment industry and firmly establish 3ality Digital as the premier 3D broadcast provider.”
The live 3D broadcast of the NFL Network's Thursday Night Football was shot and transmitted by 3ality Digital and shown to invited guests at theatres in Boston, Hollywood and New York City. The three-dimensional nature of the broadcast, which incorporated state-of-the-art technology built into 3ality Digital's camera platforms, was acclaimed for conveying the sense among viewers that they were actually on the field with the players.
“This is an amazing way to close out 2009 and begin what promises to be another watershed year for 3D,” said 3ality Digital LLC CEO Sandy Climan. “I'm thrilled to see the impact this broadcast and similar 3ality Digital projects have had on the global broadcast community. From the United Kingdom to Spain to Japan, broadcasters around the world have seen the potential of live-action 3D and will be launching dedicated 3D initiatives in 2010.”
The success of the NFL broadcast led a month later to the first live 3D broadcast to consumers, when 3ality Digital produced a live 3D broadcast of college football's national title game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Florida Gators.
About 3ality Digital
3ality Digital develops enabling technologies to power live-action 3D entertainment from image capture through broadcast, independent of viewing environment. 3ality Digital's camera platforms, stereo image processing systems, and 3D image scaling technologies are quickly earning a reputation as the “gold standard” for the emerging medium, and are rapidly being adopted by broadcasters, production companies, studios and consumer electronics manufacturers.
3ality Digital technology has powered a number of live-action firsts, including U2 3D, the first movie shot completely in digital live-action 3D; the first live 3D broadcast of an NFL game (Raiders vs. Chargers, Dec. 4th, 2008); the first live 3D sports broadcast available to consumers (BCS Championship, Jan. 8th, 2009); the first 3D commercial broadcast on television (Sobe “Lizard Lake,”); and the first episode of a scripted television series shot in digital live-action 3D (Chuck vs. The Third Dimension, aired on NBC on Feb. 2, 2009). Many people today suffer from food allergies. You may have friends or family members who are unable to tolerate wheat or gluten but you want to have them over for dinner. Here is a simple list of meal plans that uses every day ingredients that every one can enjoy.
Fried Chicken- With mashed potatoes and gravy with veges or salad.
Dredge chicken in a bowl of stirred eggs then in a mixture of cornstarch with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Fry as usual.
Serve with mashed potatoes and gravy. Gravy can be made with broth, cornstarch, salt and pepper.
Vegetables steamed or sautéed with butter is a nice side dish. If you decide to go with a salad, leave out the croutons. Most salad dressings are gluten/wheat free.
Tostadas or Tacos- With Spanish rice and lots of toppings.
Spread tostada/taco/corn tortilla with bean dip then top with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, cheese, sour cream and green onions.
McCormick has a taco mix that does not contain gluten (at this writing). Use to make taco meat for either the taco or tostada.
Spanish rice is easy to make. Sauté rice with butter, garlic powder, salt, cumin and chili pepper. Add canned stewed tomatoes along with water and simmer till done.
Enchiladas- Beef, chicken, bean, or cheese. Serve with Spanish rice and lots of toppings.
Original enchiladas are gluten/wheat free when using corn tortillas.
Roast Beef and Potatoes is a great simple standby.
If you use seasonings for the roast make sure to check if it has wheat in it or not. Salt, pepper and broth with lots of chopped onions will work great.
The side dishes can be roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, French fries, rice and some colorful vegetables.
Dessert is also simple by using ice cream. You can make it real fun by having lots of different toppings such as hot fudge, strawberry preserves, caramel, nuts, whipped cream.
Another idea for toppings is chopped candies, gummy bears, Hershey bars, candy canes, snickers, recess peanut butter bars, and red hots.
Puddings made with cornstarch are safe as well as Jell-O. You can make a nice Jell-O, whip cream and fruit parfait.
Offering a fresh fruit tray is also simple and refreshing.
Hopefully these simple recipes will encourage you to reach out and invite your friends over without feeling overwhelmed about what to serve.
Please remember to read labels just to be sure.
Enjoy!

A judge in Sargodha on Friday ordered that five Muslim Americans suspected of pursuing jihadist training in Pakistan remain in custody for another 10 days so the police could continue their investigation. An earlier custody order was set to expire Friday. The police said in mid-December that they were planning to charge the five men, all from the Washington, D.C., area, under antiterrorism laws with planning a “criminal conspiracy”; they reiterated those intentions on Friday. No charges have been filed, and the men are due back in court on Jan. 4. If charged and convicted, they could serve prison sentences in Pakistan, but the law minister in Punjab Province, Rana Sanaullah, said he believed that the five men would ultimately be deported to the United States.

WASHINGTON — The Guantanamo Bay prison might not close until 2011 because it will take months for the federal government to buy an Illinois prison and upgrade it.
Congress must first appropriate money for the takeover of the Thomson Correctional Center and the necessary construction. Lawmakers wary of moving detainees into the United States could balk at approving the funds.
The prison in rural western Illinois might not be bought from the state until March and will need up to 10 months of construction, said Joe Shoemaker, spokesman for Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt yesterday would not say when the Guantanamo prison would close.

Sony finally put out their e-book reader, the Reader, which barely made it in time for the holidays. If you pre-ordered it before December 20th, then it will ship, don’t be surprised if you don’t get it before the 25th.
The Reader is planned to have newspaper subscriptions to journals like The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Baltimore Sun, and the Wall Street Journal. The subscriptions are at varying prices, but the reader itself is about $399.

The Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg, today re-affirmed his commitment to abolishing tuition fees, after recently warning that the flagship policy might have to be sacrificed.
He said the party had, after all, found a way to fund the pledge despite the dire state of the public finances. It would not be implemented in full until 2015, however.
Clegg angered activists at the party's autumn conference by suggesting that the £2.5bn-a-year policy might prove unaffordable. In an email to Lib Dem members today, he said the party's federal policy committee had agreed a new commitment to phase out tuition fees over a six-year period.
“We were right to oppose tuition fees from day one, and have been right to continue to oppose any lifting of the cap on the limit of fees,” he said.
Under the party's revised policy, tuition fees would be scrapped first for final-year students, in an attempt to discourage them from dropping out. Second-year students would be covered from 2013, followed by part-time students from 2014, with all remaining fees scrapped in 2015.
“Of course, at a time of economic crisis, when the government has got the public finances into a mess, it is extremely important to be responsible about making a big financial commitment like this,” Clegg said.
“Students want to be treated like grown-ups; they know money doesn't grow on trees and that big spending commitments like this are only affordable over time. That's why we have agreed together to lay out a financially responsible timetable to scrap fees, step by step, over the six years after the general election.”
The National Union of Students (NUS) welcomed Clegg's announcement but said it had to be backed up by a commitment to continue to expand student numbers.
The union's president, Wes Streeting, said: “Universities have to be given adequate funding if we are to continue to maintain standards in higher education while also continuing to give those from poorer backgrounds the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Without this funding, we would actually end up with fewer people from poorer backgrounds going into higher education, just so that university can be free for the privileged minority.
“NUS has long argued that a university education should be free at the point of use, with graduates giving back to the system according to how much they earn. This way, the sector would receive the funding it needs, and poorer students would be given the opportunity to go to university without the fear of debt.”
Living on 200 dollars a month or less might sound impossible. It is in fact very possible to live very well on less than 200 dollars per month in any part of the world.
First forget about owning a house or paying rent. Renting or owning makes it impossible to live on little money. Even if you own your place outright the taxes, maintains cost, utilities, etc will drain money. Ownership is only an investment if you intent to sell and downgrade. Property is not a necessary a sure investment as revealed by the present economic climate. Having a place is an unnecessary burden and anchor. Having an investment property might be an alternative as long as it's a secure source of income that is better than money in the bank.
Next forget about owning things that come with having your own place. This includes everything from pot and pans to televisions and automobiles. These things deprecate as soon as you buy them. All you will need is some good clothing a good bag to carry them in, perhaps a laptop or mobile.
Next put your money in some sort of savings that are secure. Present savings rates are poor but if you are dedicated to living on less money you might get some good terms for three to five year fixed funds. The money earned on these savings and any other flows of income you can get without having a fixed job will be you budget. If your budget is as low as ten dollar a month you can probably still manage.
Now that you are down to your few possessions you are very mobile and can go anywhere you wish. You will need to volunteer somewhere in exchange for food and accommodation. There are various web sites that offer opportunities to do just this. WWOOF and Help Exchange are just two. Based on your budget as calculated in the previous paragraph you can gage how far you can travel. Opportunities to volunteers likely exist not far from where you are. If your budget allows, you can travel further afield. The post available on these sites are wide and varied from fruit picking to renovation work to helping at orphanages.
I have volunteered through these web sites and without exception all experiences have been pleasant, worthwhile and educational. My budget for one year was as follows. 520 Canadian dollars for insurance or medical fees, 470 dollars for travel, 500 dollars for other expenses like clothes, entertainment, etc. This works out to less than 125 dollars a month. During this one year period I ate and drank very well, better then I treated myself. Stayed in lovely accommodations and made some very good friends. If your budget is only one dollar a month then you will have to forgo the insurance and stay close to where you are. Some hosts will offer pocket money or to cover your travel expenses. Some places will accept couples and families.
You might ask why not just get a job. It is a philosophical difference; not working for money is a completely different experience. For me work is not an exchange of money and time, it's a pleasant way to spend the day. After all the day is long if one does not do something. The standard of living I had during this time was better than the standard of living I had when I earned a good wage with a lot less headaches and the added bonus of freedom to go where and when I liked.
Using Eye-Makeup to Create a Stunning Look

PDF to Word by Nitro is just such a tool, and given its claim as “The Most Accurate PDF-to-Word Converter”, I had to give it a shot.
And you know what? It does remarkably well. Based on the test documents I tried, I really didn't run into any serious issues, other than the elephant in the room: uploading your documents to a third-party for conversion. I can't imagine using a service like this for real-world heavy lifting with business-related documents. I can't hand over my sensitive documents to a third-party.
However, for business users with the same issue, there's good news. Nitro's PDF-to-Word conversion technology is what powers their Nitro PDF Professional desktop application, and it has recently been marked down from $99 US to $69 US, with a free 14 day trial available.
WASHINGTON – A chastened Chuck Schumer admits he was just plane dumb in not realizing when it was time to shut up.
That's why he hustled Wednesday to apologize to a female flight attendant after referring to her with the B-word following a heated snit Sunday aboard a Washington-bound US Airways shuttle.
Schumer was yakking away on his cell phone as the jet waited at the gate at LaGuardia when the flight attendant told him to cork it.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was also ear-to-phone in the seat next to him.
Schumer spokesman Brian Fallon said the senator complied with the order, but he argued, noting the plane door was still open.
The woman told him she had the last word. But Schumer found one more after she walked away – the B-word – as he groused about the attendant to Gillibrand.
Unfortunately for Schumer, a Republican on board overheard him – and spilled the beans to Politico.com.
Schumer responded by tracking down the flight attendant and calling her – on a different phone – to say he's sorry.
“The senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath after the flight attendant walked away,” said Fallon. “He shouldn't have made it, he regrets it and he has apologized for it.”
Republicans pounced anyway, casting Schumer as an arrogant, entitled snob.
“It's often said that the most dangerous place to be … is between Chuck Schumer and a TV camera, but it's increasingly clear that a close second is when someone has the gall to ask the senator to follow the same rules” as everyone else, said GOP Senate campaign spokesman Brain Walsh.
Walsh also used the incident to smack the more politically vulnerable Gillibrand, saying she “condoned” the remark.
Gillibrand spokesman Matt Canter begged to differ, saying the mea culpa satisfied his boss.
“Sen. Schumer did the right thing by apologizing,” he said.
Schumer has pushed an airline “passenger bill of rights” in years past. He told the Daily News last year, “The least we can do is make sure passengers are treated respectfully.”

You don't have to be a beauty-expert or a makeup artist to learn how to apply eye makeup for a beautiful look. With just a few of the right tools and makeup essentials, you can learn two looks which are sure to leave your eyes looking very pretty. This article will explain how you can get a gorgeous look, as well as how to appropriately make your eyes up for daytime.
For a daytime look, it's most appropriate to look pulled-together, simple and pretty. Most employers don't want the women they hire to wear a full face of generously applied makeup (which would be more appropriate for a party, date or going out with your girlfriends) to work. To avoid looking overly made-up, stick to light applications and colors that are not too bold. You want people to notice your eyes, not your makeup. Follow the steps below to achieve a pretty, daytime-appropriate look.
1. Apply a thin layer or concealer all over the eyelid, as well as the under-eye area. Blend the concealer thoroughly using your fingers or a makeup sponge. This will even your skin tone and give your eye-shadow a nice surface to stick to.
2. Using a medium-sized shadow-brush, apply a very light colored (pearly pink, very light lilac, very pale blue, pearly white, champagne, or beige) powder eye-shadow all over the eyelid (from lash line all the way to the bottom of the eyebrows.)
3. Using a crease-brush, (if you don't have one, you can use the pointy end of the sponge-tip applicator that usually comes with eye-shadow) apply a slightly darker, yet similar color to the crease (the area in between the lid and brow bone). For example, if you used lilac eye-shadow to fill in the whole eye-lid, use a slightly darker lilac eye-shadow or something in the purple or plum family to fill in the crease.
4. Carefully line the inner rim or your lower lid with a white eye pencil.
5. Carefully line the inner rim of your upper lid, only from the outer edge to the middle of the eye, with a black or grey eye pencil.
6. Using an eyelash curler, curl the upper lashes of both eyes for ten seconds per eye.
7. Using a tissue, wipe the wand of a brown or black mascara. Apply one to two coats on the upper lashes.

Mayon volcano recently erupted and more than 20 thousand residents nearby Mayon Volcano are evacuated. This is the recent breaking news today and everybody is talking about it.
Lava fragments glowed in the dark as they flow slowly down the mountain slope in Legazpi City. The head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Renato Solidum, said that “the activity could get worse in coming days.”
Residents in Albay are used to moving away from Mayon. Nearly 50,000 people live in a five-mile (eight-kilometer) radius around the mountain, and some villages were evacuated last month when the volcano spewed ash.
Some classes were suspended indefinitely near the danger zone. Officials will find a way to squeeze in classes in school buildings to be used as shelters, Salceda said.
More updates about Mayon Volcano will be posted soon. So stay tuned!

So you're running a marathon (half marathon, 10k, 5k)? Well done! Here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of your pre-race starting line experience and don't become one of those racers we talk about.
- Don't be a chatterbox. Where you are in the corrals will give you and idea of who you are going to be running next to. If you are in the first 5 corrals, you're running with the fast guns and most of them take the time before a race to focus. A lot of runners look at every distance run like the hard journey it is and they get mentally prepared. You might meet one or two who are just there “for fun” but even they are out to win something. Go back a few corrals and you will start to meet people who are there running for a charity, running to check states of their lists or as a bet from a friend. These are the social creatures, the people who make running the pleasant sport it is. However, know your audience. If you see someone stretching, don't saddle up next to them and pretend to know everything about them. Keep the talking down to a minimum. If you see an opening, take it. But don't be the one to open the door.
- Don't stand in the middle of the corral and pass gas. Nerves come and you are getting the blood flowing for the morning. It's a natural part of the running experience. However, be a good person and move out of the large group of people and then come back. There are so many people walking around, no one is going to notice your absence.
- Be available for people. Take pictures for the people who ask, hold the jacket for someone who needs to fix their hat, tell the guy who looks nervous that it's going to be fine. Be part of the community and help where you can. Your fellow runners will appreciate it and when you see them on the course later, they will remember you and cheer you on. It is a great feeling.
- Don't jog in the corral. If you are doing a warm up jog, do it before you enter the corral. Nothing makes runners more nervous than someone weaving in and out of tight groups trying to warm up. There is plenty of room outside the corral. Make sure that once you pass through those gates you are ready to race.
- When you throw your clothing off, go long. Especially on a cold morning, all the runners will be layered. As we start moving those clothes come off and have to go somewhere. Tossing them to the side is an acceptable place for them to land. (Most of the clothes get donated to local charities, so you are doing a good thing with your littering.) However, if you throw it down right where 1,000s of runners behind you will be crossing, you are asking for trouble. Tossed clothing becomes a landmine just waiting to trip up the next runner. When you toss your shirt or pants or gloves remember to toss long and toss in an arch. Even if it doesn't make it all the way to the side, the good will effort you show will ensure that no one is truly upset when they land on your chucked thermals.
- The same thing applies to water bottles or energy drink cans. Don't be sloppy and just drop the empty drink can wherever you want. Walk to the side and toss it out of the way.
- Take pictures before you start running and stop until after you're past the starting line. Take as many pictures as you want while you are standing there waiting for your turn to cross the starting line. If you are in corral 19 of a race, you have easily 40 minutes before you get going. Use the time to stretch, get the blood moving and take your pictures. Don't be embarrassed to ask someone to take your picture. You only get one starting line today. Use it. Once you get in the groove and start for the starting line, put the camera away or get off to the side where you can be slower without bothering anyone. Most starting lines of big races are shows themselves and you want to remember it. This is the start of one of the coolest things you'll do, at least for a day. Enjoy it and let everyone behind you enjoy it too.
- Smile and wave and have a good time. Some people won't drive as far as you're about to run. Enjoy this really cool thing you're doing. I don't care if it's the first or the 50th race you've done. Take a moment and take in everything around you: the sights, the sounds, the smells, the way your body feels. A runner who can truly enjoy the race he or she is about to run is the runner I want next to me for the next few hours. Be that runner.
Follow these tips and together we can continue to make the running community one of respect, caring, continuing health, joy and camaraderie. Enjoy your run. It's thrilling, isn't it?!

Daniel Clemente, Chairman and CEO of Clemente Development Co., Inc. painted a bleak picture of the US real estate market at the inaugural Arab Global Forum, “The Arab World in a New Global Context: Challenges, Choices and Opportunities,” at the Mandarin Oriental, Washington, DC, December 7-8, 2009.
Of the $1.4 trillion in loans maturing by December 2013, $770 billion are currently classified by Foresight Analytics as under water, Clemente observed, meaning that “today debt exceeds market value of the loan's collateral.” A 10% national office vacancy rate, 25% decline in net effective rents, lower commercial real estate values, and lack of available credit will make repayment difficult. “The drop in market value translates to a loss to lenders of more than $500 billion.”
Clemente described the unsustainable, growing practice of “Extend and Pretend,” whereby lenders don't foreclose on overleveraged building owners to avoid balance sheet markdowns, and the pressure being placed upon the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation by such a practice. He stated that “lack of liquidity in the FDIC insurance fund has resulted in policy decisions that will keep the commercial real estate market frozen and only push the problem into the future.
“How aggressively regulators respond will determine how long the commercial real estate market remains frozen. I would suggest that as the US economy starts to recover and the FDIC fund becomes more solvent the policy will change again to strict enforcement and commercial real estate will become available at steeply discounted prices.”
Clemente is a nationally recognized developer, banker and attorney, currently managing a portfolio that focuses on the ongoing benefits of property ownership. He formed CDC Real Estate Opportunity Fund I in 2008 to take advantage of investment opportunities in income producing commercial real estate, predicting defaults would occur starting this year as loans closed between 2002 and 2007 matured amid significantly changed underwriting standards and little ready capital. Clemente expects that as banks finally recognize losses on commercial real estate loans, properties will come to market at more realistic prices. “Our Fund was formed to take advantage of exactly this situation. We are well capitalized and ready to move quickly as appropriately-priced properties become available.”

The NYPD released a second photo Monday of the wanted boyfriend of slain sculptor Susan Woolf.
Cops want to question Tigran Tambiev, 43, after finding Woolf slashed, with packing tape around her neck. Police sources said he is believed to be the killer.
Tambiev, a furniture mover, has a heavy drinking problem, Woolf's friends have said, and had a rocky relationship with the artist, 49, who was deaf in one ear. They were living together – with her service dog, Angus, a poodle – at least until recently.
“She was on top of the world over this guy,” a friend, Melinda Caudill, 34, of Astoria, said. “But I didn't feel the same way at all.”
Tambiev is 5-feet-8 and 145 pounds, with green eyes and brownish blond hair. He was last seen wearing a black waist-length jacket, blue jeans and boots. He also has a 2-inch cut under his left eye.

Losing weight is not rocket science, but still it seems hard to accomplish. Why is losing weight such a challenge? Is it your lifestyle? Is your will power letting you down? Or have you caught the obesity epidemic which is becoming far too common? More often than not the reasons are combination of all these factors, and some times there are more pathological reasons like hormonal imbalance.
Today life is on fast track. We don't have seconds to spare, most wish there were 48 hours in a day. People are overworked, stressed and tired to do anything at the end of the day. We can't change our routines and lifestyle at the height of our careers, we just think oh maybe not this week, or this year, may be when I have more time on my hands, or maybe when my kids grow up, and so on. It usually just doesn't happen until you finally retire, and by that time you have already done the damage. It takes more time to repair the damage than it would have to prevent it in the first place. So what should we do to lose weight and keep it off in today's busy lifestyles and fast food culture? Here are some pointers.
Start now and be done with the excuses
If you are like me you are thinking, yeah, I should lose some weight, improve my lifestyle, and start exercising and so on. But when the time comes to act, we begin by saying, “oh I can't start right now because……!” we come up with many different reasons every time. Well my advice is, stop making excuses and start right now, no matter what you are doing, or where you are, whether you are reading this in front of computer, or at work or at library. Don't leave it on some future date. Decide that your next meal will be a healthy one.
Stick with it and don't give up.
Know for a fact that there is no speed dieting, it takes time and commitment. Most of the time what happens is we start dieting, work on it for few weeks and expect our body to respond right away with lost pounds, but actually what happens is your body resists to change at first, then slowly it adjusts to your new eating habits and it takes time, may be few weeks or months for some but it does change and you do lose weight on healthy diet if you stick with it. And if you are a veteran dieter, been there done that kind of person, don't give up, keep trying and just start over again with new enthusiasm.
Maintain a food diary.
I know many of you have heard or tried this before, but it really worked for me. When I wrote down everything I ate during the day I was very aware what went into my body. I thought about it every time I was eating, or drinking. I even wrote down 5 M&M's I ate.
You don't have to turn your life upside down for your diet to work. But you do need planning and strategy. Try and weave your diet plan into your lifestyle, so you don't feel restricted and overwhelmed, but free to choose.
Have a plan to avoid pitfalls
Occasional happy hours, or free hotel breakfast buffets, or business lunches or cocktail parties, if you have been to any of these, you know how they threaten our resolve to eat healthy. Even when your brain keeps telling you NO, your hand defiantly advances towards those treats. How can you avoid these diet threats? Well be ready with a plan; know what you are going to do in these situations. Here are some pointers, Eat healthy before you go, fill up so your body will not be tempted to eat. Drink more water. Keep chewing gum handy, or better yet keep chewing one so your sweet tooth will be less demanding and your mouth will be busy. Eat in small portions, take your time chew every bite slowly and limit your drinks. If you can't avoid eating without being rude, then enjoy your food but then eat as much healthy foods as you can next day.
Don't give yourself too many choices
Research has shown that availability of too many tastes and textures in our food choices actually leads to overeating. So eat the same thing you ate yesterday, just make sure it's healthy, Eat same kind of sandwich you ate for lunch yesterday and so on, keep repeating the same menu for few weeks and then change it for next couple of months. It not only makes thing simple but also easier to maintain. It keep you from thinking too much about what you will eat next, and takes the excitement about food and obsession over it out of your mind, which results in less eating and ultimately weight loss.
Follow the Pyramid
We all know about the food pyramid. Include plenty of fruits and vegetable in your diet. Limit intake of red meat, buttery, oily foods and alcohol. When snacking keep fruits like banana, apple, or plum, which you can hold in one hand close by. When you go grocery shopping, buy as much as fresh or freshly prepared food as you can and don't buy junk food at all. If it is not in front of your eyes you will not be tempted to eat it.
Breakfast like a King (or Queen)
You probably already know about this old adage,” Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”. Well it is now scientifically proved that it is the ideal way to eat. Morning is when your body kick starts its metabolism. Skipping breakfast does not help you lose weight, it actually triggers exactly opposite response from the body. It slips into starvation mode and conserves calories. If you eat proper healthy breakfast it will keep you full longer, possibly until lunch, eliminating need to eat any mid-morning snack or junk. Eat moderate lunch, with vegetables and protein in it. Eat small dinner around sun down, so body actually gets to digest the food before it shuts down its metabolism for the day when you sleep.
Exercise
You must burn calories that you take in, that's the basic rule of staying healthy. Yes you will lose weight on diet alone if you stick with it long enough, but you will lose weight more efficiently if you combine it with regular exercise. Start with diet, when you lose weight you will have more energy and exercise will become a pleasant activity for you.
Keep track of your exercise in your food diary whenever you start, and keep working at it at your own space. Don't push yourself too hard but don't lose sight of your goal either.
Dieting is about you and your body, how you want to live your life and take care of your self. Getting there and staying there are not that different. Just be patient and set realistic goals. You will be amazed at the difference it makes in your life.
How to Help Your Child with Orthodontic Pain

It should also be made clear that those settlements are illegal under international law.
But since when has the implementation of law been a matter of individual choice? It was the government, not shoppers, who signed up to the Geneva conventions and security council resolutions that made the settlements illegal. It's up to the government to enforce its own commitment and ban the import and sale of what amount to stolen goods.
Meanwhile, in the absence of proper enforcement, I have been conducting my own “citizen's seizures”, removing “West Bank” dates from supermarket shelves. I have offered Tesco and Sainsbury's repayment if they can show the dates are not the produce of illegal settlements.
Some dates I have “sold” in aid of Gaza charities, and some I have sent to UK lawmakers and enforcers with an invitation to consider who stole them. A recent consignment is on its way “home” to Gaza with the Viva Palestina convoy.
More important is for the UK to implement the laws it has signed. The history of Israel/Palestine has been bedevilled by contradictory commitments and selective enforcement. Now the import and sale of settlement products must be stopped.
The Foreign Office may not be calling for a boycott of Israeli goods, but it must honour the human rights clause included in the EU trade agreement with Israel. There should be no favoured entry for Israeli goods into Europe until the rights of Palestinians are respected.

The increases to APD are unjustified and will result in significant economic
harm to the airline industry. You should be in no doubt that the policy you
have decided to pursue, at a time when many are enduring a period of
unprecedented difficulties, threatens the viability of UK airlines.
I remain baffled that whilst you have taken decisive action to assist other
industry sectors (reduction in VAT retail and quantative easing for banking
to name just two), you have chosen to take the entirely opposite direction
for aviation and have increased the tax burden by over 100% in certain cases.
I ask you again to reconsider your approach which will literally tax the
airline industry out of business and as a consequence will have a serious
knock-on effect on the wider economy.

There is no question that orthodontic pain is terrible, and it's even worse in young children. You can't get oral pain out of your mind and it sometimes spreads to the jaw and even the ears. When your child has braces or a palate expander or any other device associated with orthodontia, he or she might be suffering from consistent, unrelenting pain. Before you discount it as mere overreaction, consider a survey conducted by the American Association of Orthodontists, which shows that 64% of adults with braces have skipped at least one day of work with orthodontic pain. It isn't just the kids who are suffering, but anyone with braces. Here's how to help your child with orthodontic pain.
Let your child stay home from school.
Unless you are convinced that your child is running a complex ploy to get out of his or her math test, staying home should be an option, particularly after a visit to the orthodontist. Orthodontic pain can keep a child from being able to eat anything and will probably distract him or her from schoolwork. It's better to give your child the day off to recuperate than to insist on attending school.
Buy lots of ice cream.
Cold foods are great for kids who are suffering from orthodontic pain. In fact, the colder the better, because intensely cold food will numb the gums and drive at least some of the pain away. If your child isn't a fan of ice cream, you might consider running to the 7-11 for a slurpie or giving your child crushed-up ice cubes to help numb the pain.
Distract your child.
Sometimes orthodontic pain will seem more intense because your child is sitting around feeling miserable. If he or she can handle it, suggest watching a favorite television program, reading a book or playing outside. Keeping your child distracted from the discomfort in his or her mouth will make time go by faster, and the pain will fade in a couple of days.
Look for sores.
Sometimes orthodontic pain isn't associated with the tightening of the braces or wearing rubber bands, but damage to the lips from the braces and brackets. Braces can be incredibly sharp, and I can remember tearing my lip a time or two while sleeping. It isn't much fun. Thankfully, you can usually find lip protectors at your local drug store that your child can wear while sleeping, playing an instrument or any other activity that might cause lips to tear on braces.
Pick up canker sore treatment.
Another problem that might cause orthodontic pain is canker sores, which can form in connection with the braces. When the braces touch the sore, it can really be painful, so keep ambesol or another canker sore treatment on hand for emergencies. it won't provide immediate relief, but the sore will certainly disappear faster.
Ask for a prescription
If your child is suffering from severe orthodontic pain on a regular basis, ask your orthodontist for a prescription for pain killers to be used after adjustments. This can be a life-saver for a child who has a low tolerance for pain or who has a particularly bad time of it. Most orthodontists will be happy to do it as long as you agree to monitor the dosage.
